The ATBC Board arrived early morning at Greenvale Reservoir to set up for the picnic. We began the day by placing out the signs, flags and banners.
Some friends from the ATUSA board arrived before lunch to lend a hand with the preparations.
We are very pleased to announce that Mr Aydin Nurhan has been appointed Ambassador-Designate to the West African country of Ghana. This appointment has come after serving two years in Melbourne as our Consulate General for the Republic of Turkey.
During his time in Melbourne, Mr Nurhan has left an indelible mark on the Turkish community. He has always worked tirelessly in his representation of Turkey, hardly ever missing a Turkish community function or event.
It was a dark, cold and wet Friday evening, but the weather did not stop our guests from promptly arriving to enjoy a special evening with the Victorian Premier, the Honourable Ted Bailllieu.
Once seated inside Gardenhurst Receptions, our attendee’s quickly shrugged off the cold. The atmosphere within the Reception was one of excitement and warmth, as the guests anxiously awaited the arrival of the Victorian Premier.
The ATBC Committee wish to sincerely thank Erhan Yondemli, for his extensive contribution to the ATBC Board.
Members are often unaware of the time and effort that Board Members unselfishly contribute to the Board, in order to run a smooth and progressive ship. However, other Board members were witness to Erhan’s continuous and noble commitment.
One of the great delights this Summer was the annual ATBC picnic, which was held at Greenvale Reservoir on the 6th March.
The day was absolutely beautiful, the sun was shining, the weather was warm and there was no intrusive wind. The beautiful weather bought out many Turkish families to enjoy the lovely day.
The Australian Turkish Business Council has again this year made a financial contribution to Mount Clear College, in order to partially assist students to partake in a trip to Gallipoli.
The Gallipoli programme at Mount Clear College offers students an opportunity to visit the historical war site in Gallipoli. Whilst in Turkey, the students also get the opportunity to visit their sister school, Gallipoli High School, in order to strengthen ties between the two schools.
The Moreland Turkish Association hosted an evening at the Hume Learning Centre to introduce the newly- appointed Australian Ambassador to Turkey, Mr Ian Biggs to the local Turkish and Australian Community.
Many business people, community leaders and the general public attended, to officially greet the New Australian Ambassador to Turkey.
On Sunday the 28th February, ATBC held their first Annual Picnic at Greenvale Reservoir.
The weather was rather cool but it did not hinder the brave and eager Picnic lovers from enjoying their day. The Children played ball games and had lots of fun. The men and women socialized as they consumed the tasty, barbecued food.
Our ATBC members and guests enjoyed the Annual Iftar Dinner which was held at Leila Receptions on the 16th September.
On the 31st July, the Commonwealth Bank invited all ATBC members to an Economic Seminar at Leila Receptions. Those members who attended had a very informative and entertaining evening.
Craig James, who is the Chief Economist at the Commonwealth Bank, delivered a detailed economic forecast, focusing on the International economy and how it will affect our Australian economy, the Australian dollar and Interest rates. It was indeed a privilege to receive economic insight from one the most respected Economists in Australia.
